MagicInfo Installation Instructions for Video Wall
Problem Description :
Instructions provided by consultant Brian Kosich at Brawn Consulting - brian@brawnconsulting.com for installing MagicInfo
Resolution :
Here’s the basics. It talks about connecting the monitors in steps 4 and 5. We can setup a call to go through this together if needed.
Here’s some basic instructions to get you started, as well as the current links to the software on our site:
The files are hosted on our Brawn Consulting Samsung Partner portal at www.bcpartnerportal.com . No login is required to access them here.
To setup a server, you will need these two installers:
PostgreSQL-9.3.8-1-windows (There is a 32bit and a 64bit version. Choose the one that is appropriate for your machine.)
64 bit: http://www.bcpartnerportal.com/Samsung-MagicInfo/Legacy%20Versions/MagicINFO%206.0%206002.0/MagicINFO%20Server%20V6%206002.2/postgresql-9.3.8-1-windows-x64.exe
32 bit: http://www.bcpartnerportal.com/Samsung-MagicInfo/Legacy%20Versions/MagicINFO%206.0%206002.0/MagicINFO%20Server%20V6%206002.2/postgresql-9.3.8-1-windows.exe
And the MagicInfo Server 7.1 Installer: http://www.bcpartnerportal.com/Samsung-MagicInfo/MagicInfo%207%207100.2/MagicInfo%20Server%207%207100.2_A/MagicInfo%20Server%207100.2_A%20Setup.exe
For setting up a server, I like to break the process down into five steps.
1. Select a computer, running Windows, that will act as a server. SET IT TO A STATIC IP.
2. Install PostgreSQL database or Microsoft SQL. This should be installed to the same machine that will act as the server. Do not use Express SQL. Write down any the usernames and passwords you create. If you are unsure of the settings, leave them all as the defaults. You do not need the stack builder at the end of the PostgreSQL installer. Either uncheck the box, or close it when it opens.
3. Run the MagicInfo Server installer. During the install, it will ask for the password you created during the PostgreSQL installation. Be sure this is correct. At one point in the installer, if will ask you if you wish to do the Express or Advance install. If you are unsure, do the express. If you do the express install, it will setup the ports, users, and organizations for you. If you do the advanced install, you will set these. Write down any user names and passwords you create. Select the appropriate SQL during the installation. If you use the express install, the login for the admin user will be “admin” for the user name, and “admin2016” for the password. After the server is installed, restart the machine.
4. Plug in the monitor(s), and tell it what flavor of MagicInfo it will run, and the Server’s Static IP.
To enter this info for the internal player (Lite or Premium S), press Menu>Network>Server Network Settings. Here, make sure that the monitor shows the correct mode for the player; either Premium or Lite. If you change it, you will need to go back to this menu again after the change, as the display will shut off when changed. Choose CONNECT TO A SERVER, and enter the server’s static IP here. You can use the numbers on the remote instead of the onscreen keyboard if you wish. Nothing else; just the IP. Leave the port as the default, (unless you did the advanced install and changed the port.) then save this setting. Leave SSL off (Again, unless you did the advanced install and enabled SSL) Press exit on the remote to leave this menu. Then Press HOME on the remote, choose PLAYER, then NETWORK CHANNEL. You will see the MagicInfo Cube animation.
If you are using an external Player with Premium I, like a Windows based Set back box or a PC, the initialization process is different. Much like the internal player, the player must be configured first. You’ll need a USB keyboard and mouse. Plug them into the SBB USB ports on the PC. Install I Player to the PC using this installer:
http://www.bcpartnerportal.com/Samsung-MagicInfo/MagicInfo%207%207100.2/MagicInfo%20I%20Player%207%207000.0/MagicINFO%20I%20Player%207%20Build%20NA-MIIPP-7000.0.exe . After the install, restart the PC. It will load the player upon restart and show a MagicInfo splash screen. Press the ESC key on the keyboard. This will take you to the desktop. Then, there is an agent for MagicInfo running in the lower right corner on the taskbar. Right click on this and choose SETUP>BASIC (If you need to use ADVANCED, do so). It will ask for a password. The password is “000000”. When the window comes up, click on the server tab at the top. Click the box that says, “access the server periodically” and enter the IP for your server. Click Apply and close/exit.
5. Log into the web portal for the server (http://(server ip):(portal port)/MagicInfo. (ex: mine is http://192.168.1.68:7001/MagicInfo). The “M” and the “I” in MagicInfo must be capitalized. The URL is case sensitive. Once logged in, you need to activate a license. Click on settings, then License Info. You can enter licenses that you purchased by clicking “First time activation”, or to activate a 60-day demo license for 5 displays for Premium, or the 25 free licenses for MagicInfo Lite, click the “Free License” button. Choose the one you want from the drop down and enter your info. You must fill every box. It will connect to Samsung and unlock the demo license. If you get an error when activating a license, check that your firewall is not blocking the connection. Log out and log back in. After that, if everything is correct, you can go to Device>Unapproved on the web portal, and you should be able to approve it, name it, and add it to a group. Currently, there will only be one group, unless you created more, named “default”. Add them to this group, as you can always move them to other groups later. If you do not see the monitor, check your network settings (firewall ports, etc.). Check the box next to the monitor and hit approve. Give it a name, a group (assuming you did the express install, click the arrow next to DEFAULTORG, and chose the DEFAULT group), and a location. Location can be anything you want to help identify that monitor. The monitor is now ready to receive content.
