Dell MD1200 DAS install notes

 Problem Description : 

Notes on the setup for a MD1200 Direct Attached Storage

 Resolution : 

Connect RAID Controller PCI to the 'IN' ports on the MD1200 via SAS cables.

Make sure MD1200 H810 RAID Controller shows up under Device Manager under Controllers.

Download and install latest version of open manage systems management software: Searched google for site:dell.com openmanage manged node 8.4.0

OpenManage will show you what firmware/drivers need to be updated. 

- Went to Dell site and downloaded firmware for H810 RAID controller. For latest drivers had to find firmware under R820 (SAS RAID section)

- Downloaded and Installed driver updates for H810 and H700 controllers.

- Downloaded and ran DSET from dell.com/tools (default password for DSET report is 'dell'.

In OpenManage, created a New Virtual Disk for RAID 6 using the Advanced Wizard. Check all the drives in the enclosure. Background process will take several hours/days.

Under Disk Management in Windows we initialized the disk using GPT partition style and 64k for the allocation unit size (recommended for video).

Can access OpenManage remotely via browser using https://<<machine name>>:1311

NOTE: If you daisy chain with another enclosure Dell does recommend against spanning over multiple enclosures. Recommended method is to build a separate virtual disk with different drive letter (if video software supports multiple drives)
