Error logging into TOAD or SQLPLUS after Banner V8 Upgrade

Problem Description : 

User receives a .dll or other error when trying to login through TOAD or SQLPLUS after the Banner V8 upgrade. This impacts both TOAD users and users running SQL scripts through batch files we've created, i.e. letter generation.

 

 

 Resolution : 

 

After the Banner V8 upgrade, PCs must use the Oracle 10 client to connect. Many previously installed Oracle clients were setup by using the old Banner 5 Workstation setup which uses the Oracle 8 client. After Oracle upgrades for Banner V8, the Oracle 8 client cannot connect to Banner database.

 

To correct:

1 - Uninstall the Banner 5 Workstation through Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs

2 - In REGEDIT, verify that the uninstall removed the Oracle folder under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE. If not, remove the folder.

3 - Setup the PC in WPKG to install the Oracle 10 client

4 - Reboot PC or run WPKGX or WPKGR to synchronize PC's software installs

5 - Open CMD prompt and enter SQLPLUS command. 

6 - Once SQLPLUS launches, verify the version is a minimum of 10.x.

7 - Try TOAD, batch file, etc. to see if problem is resolved.
